We live in an older home and most of the rooms do not have overhead lighting. This makes choosing the right lighting crucial for function, in addition to it simply being beautiful.

We’re Erin & Matt

Sharing our 5 tips to refresh your bedroom for Summer. I like to freshen up our home seasonally. Not so much decorate seasonally but acknowledge the changing weather by keeping the mood and textiles in the home consistent with the season. We recently updated our master bedroom and are absolutely loving all of it so I wanted to share the thought process behind this refresh and how you can refresh your space with the same 5 tips I followed.

Tip 1: Choose light colored bedding. We opted for neutrals in soft tones- tan, cream, white and sage.

Tip 2: Bring in a pop of color. Summer means days are longer and life is a little more colorful. Honor that with a pop of color of your own. We brought in a red vintage throw pillow to punch up the space.

Tip 3: Be mindful of the fabric. We chose light fabrics, cotton, linen and sateen. With the changing season comes higher temps and you want to not only have a pretty space, but a comfortable one.

Tip 4: Consider painting or adding a feature wall. We did both. You don’t have to go bold. While we personally opted for a deep saturated blue/green. The Pantone color of 2020 is blue after all. You could make your space feel totally refreshed with a fresh coat of paint in either a fun and daring choice or a crisp clean white.

Tip 5: Bring in life. Whether it be real or faux (I see you, fellow black thumb havers). Bringing in plants like, indoor friendly trees, flowers and stems, have a massive impact. Bringing life into the space makes it feel more vibrant, inviting and restful.

We absolutely love our master bedroom Summer refresh. When we walk into the space we immediately feel lighter and relaxed. We love spending time together (without the kiddos) at the end of a long day!

Links for all of our bedroom sources, bedding, bed, paint, flooring etc. can be found in the “shop the house” category of the blog. Make sure to check that out and in the meantime I hope these tips were helpful and you can use them to tackle your own space refresh..
