A “big girl” room makeover… That’s right. It’s official, no more babies live in my house… Im not crying, you’re crying. Okay I’m crying! My sweet little Lu-Bug is almost 3, which means the time has come to say goodbye to her crib and hello to her big girl canopy bed from Room & Board- along with a whole new big girl room makeover, of course. You’ve met her Mama, you know I love a makeover.
My inspiration for her big girl makeover was the Architecture Bed by Room & Board (which was generously gifted to us). It is feminine and whimsical without actually being either of those things. Follow me here… It has modern and sleek lines and is in a bold black finish. Would lend itself beautifully to any grown up and sophisticated space. Not sounding feminine or whimsical, right?! BUT when you combine those elements with a canopy style and shrink it down to twin size- then sprinkle in a little girls imagination, you suddenly have a princess bed. A modern, feminine, architectural, whimsy filled imagination igniting- princess bed. The tone was set and I started designing around it.
Tallula had ONE request. The room be PINK! “My colors are blush and bashful” -Steel Magnolias. I went in search of the perfect neutral pink and landed on HGTV Sherwin Williams color Sweet Beige. I had the store tone it down to 80% (20% lighter than formula at full saturation). It is perfection. The “just right” shade of pink for my girly girl that also reads a bit mauve/taupe for her Momma- who doesn’t love pink. Everyone is happy!
Next we needed to give the otherwise bland boring, box-like, space some pizzazz. To do that we added lots and lots of yummy moulding to her walls. Check out that moulding “how-to” HERE.
Then we needed to choose a rug. We landed on 2 options, both from, Rifle Paper Co. and let our readers decide on a winner. The vote was close but the ivory beauty pictured below edged out the competition ever so slightly. Which made me happy because it was my personal winner too. See the rug runner up HERE.
After all these changes we threw in a Craigslist score- which is a vintage dresser that we refinished in Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige at 70%. Added some soft vanilla and stone stripe roman shades. Fun and vibrant bedding and some sweet accessories. Suddenly we had a whole new space for our Miss Tallula Evelyn Belle. It’s more than I dreamed it could be and it all started with a bed!
Lula Belle absolutely LOVES her new big girl room makeover, and loves her new canopy bed from Room & Board most of all.
